Sebastián Villa returns to Boca Juniors after $6.5 million deal
Colombian forward Sebastián Villa completed his medical check at Boca Juniors on Monday and will be officially presented as a new signing. After a $6.5 million agreement with Independiente Rivadavia de Mendoza, the 30-year-old player rejoins the xeneize club, where he previously played between 2018 and 2023. Currently, Boca Juniors is in second place in the Liga Profesional Argentina with 30 points (8 wins, 6 draws, and 2 losses in 16 games), just one point behind leaders Estudiantes de La Plata.
What happened with Villa’s return to Boca?
After a conflict that led him to leave the club in 2023, Villa returns under the management of coach Rodolfo Arruabarrena. The forward, who in his first stint at Boca played 172 matches, scored 29 goals, and provided 32 assists, now signs a four-year contract. His possible debut could be against Sarmiento de Junín in the Copa Argentina or against O’Higgins of Chile in the Copa Sudamericana.
Why is this signing important?
Villa, once considered "the best player in Argentine football" by president Juan Román Riquelme, seeks redemption after a difficult period that included allegations of gender-based violence and a clash with the club’s management. His speed and experience could be key for a Boca Juniors team aiming to stay in the title race.
What’s next for Villa and Boca Juniors?
The team’s next match will be on August 2 against Newell’s Old Boys away. Meanwhile, Villa will join the squad and aim to regain his best form to contribute in the final stretch of the season.
