Boca Juniors suffered a new setback in its squad after the 2-1 victory against Central Córdoba in Santiago del Estero on 02/05/2026. Defender Juan Barinaga had to leave the field in the first half due to an injury, later confirmed as a paralytic by coach Claudio Ubeda. This incident adds concern to the Xeneize club at a crucial point in the season.

Barinaga, formerly of Belgrano, was injured in the 34th minute of the first half, shortly after receiving a yellow card in the 20th minute for a strong foul in which he also got hit. Initially, a muscle discomfort was suspected, but the Boca coach clarified the situation in the post-match press conference, specifying the nature of the injury.

This injury represents a blow for Juan Barinaga, who had a valuable opportunity to accumulate minutes and gain consideration in Claudio Ubeda's scheme. The defender was looking to climb positions for the starting lineup, especially amid discussions about the performance of Marcelo Weigandt, who replaced him at right-back during the match.

Marcelo Weigandt, a regular starter in that position, has been one of the most questioned players by Boca Juniors fans. However, in the final stretch of the Torneo Apertura, it is unlikely that the coach will opt to experiment with the formation, as a misstep could leave the club out of the fight for first place in Zone A.

Given Barinaga's potential absence, alternatives for the right-back position emerge. Dylan Gorosito, the promising number four from Boca's Reserve team, is one of the most requested youth players and has already had minutes against Gimnasia de Chivilcoy. Another option would be for Nicolás Figal, although it is not his natural position, to play as a right-back, offering a more experienced solution.
